# Introduction

### Overview

The Citi Consumer APIs let you build modern, personalized banking experiences for individuals and households. Whether you are embedding balances into a budgeting app, letting customers send money to friends, or originating a personal loan, our APIs give you secure, real-time access to the products your customers use every day.

Everything you see in these guides is organized around the way people actually bank: their **accounts**, their **cards**, how they **move money**, how they **borrow**, and how they stay in control through **digital banking**.

### How to get started

#### Get your credentials

Register your application to receive a client ID and secret for the sandbox environment.

#### Request an access token

Exchange your credentials for an OAuth 2.0 access token. See the [Authentication guide](/consumer/api-docs/get-started/authentication) for the full flow.

#### Call your first API

Use your token to retrieve a customer's [deposit accounts](/consumer/api-docs/accounts/deposit-accounts) and [balances](/consumer/api-docs/accounts/balances).

#### Go live

Complete security review, then swap your sandbox credentials for production ones.
